Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

« Back to Glossary Index

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in pharmaceutical manufacturing refers to a set of quality assurance guidelines and procedures that ensure products are consistently produced and controlled according to established quality standards appropriate for their intended use and as required by regulatory authorities. In the UK, adherence to GMP is essential for pharmaceuticals, food, and other industries where manufacturing processes directly impact product quality, safety, and efficacy. GMP covers various aspects of production, including facility cleanliness, personnel training, equipment maintenance, documentation, and quality control measures. These aspects aim to minimise that are inherent in pharmaceutical production that cannot be fully mitigated through final product testing.
